Chapter 7 Test

May 22, 2009

After writting the chapter 7 test, I have come to realize that I need to work with my time management and if I am stuck on a question for longer than a reasonable amount of time that I should just move on. Due to my inability to do so, I did not get to complete my test and left majority of the short answer blank.

I believe I would have done alot better if I went over the proofs and not have left it to the side due to the challenging nature of the questions. Also it would have helped if i went over a few of the chapter 1-4 basics in order to get a few marks that would help my overall test score.

Chapter 2 Quiz Baylim

I was unable to recognize the reason why questions such as: State the domain for y=log(x+2) had an answer eliminated. After solving x+2>0, x-1>0 and x-1 and getting the answers x 2, x>-2 and x>1. I did not know which one to get rid of but now I it is simply understandable that you cross out the one that it can already not equal x>-2 for example. This is because x>1 is already stated

Logarithms

February 26, 2009

logarithms are the inverse of an exponential function f(x) = a^x

    where: a>0, a can not = 1

x = a^y is written as y = logax

    where: a>0, a can not = 1 x>0

y=log base 2 (x+4) would be horizontal shift down 4 units same concept as translations vert. and horz. streches

asymptope is determined by the horizontial compression or decompression
for example: y=log base 2 (x+4) …. this would have an asymptote of -4

the point of the graph always is (1,0) and changes according to the equation itself
for example: y=log base 2 (x+2)-3
would change starting from (1,0) down by 2 units and left 3 units
